PhotoPWA help: opening, editing and saving images
More room for creative effects
The latest PhotoPWA update supports high-resolution output with special effects, including painted-art looks. Create output up to 8000 × 8000 pixels (64 MP), within your browser’s memory limits.
Your photos stay with you: all editing runs client-side. No AI is used, and you control filter strength manually.
Give even low-quality photos an artistic treatment, then crop and size your result for canvas prints and posters. Enlarging an image cannot restore missing detail.
How large can my image be?
Output can be up to 8000 × 8000 pixels (64 MP). The editor uses a smaller preview to keep controls responsive. Exports scale those rendered layers to your chosen dimensions. Device memory and browser limits may require a smaller output.
Does PhotoPWA use AI?
No. PhotoPWA uses conventional image filters. You choose the effect and manually adjust its strength.
Can I use a low-quality photo?
Yes. Painting and other artistic effects can turn even a low-quality photo into an artwork. They change its appearance; they do not recover lost detail.
Can I edit offline?
Once the app reports that it is ready offline, you can reopen it and edit local photos without a connection. Opening remote image URLs still needs internet access.
Do I need an account?
No. You can open the editor and work with an image without registering. The editing operations run in your browser.
How do I open a photo?
Choose a file on your device using the editor's file control. On a computer, you can also drag a file into the editor. Clipboard access depends on your browser. For instructions on the next steps, see cropping or resizing.
Why does an image URL fail to load?
A remote host can restrict requests from another website. The file may also be unavailable or use an unsupported format. Try saving the image to your device and opening the local file, provided you have permission to use it.
Are my photos uploaded for editing?
Image processing runs on your device. Opening an image from a remote URL makes a request to that provider. The contact form sends the message you submit to the website; it is separate from photo editing.
Why is the resized picture stretched?
Its width and height may no longer have the original ratio. Use the percentage slider to keep the proportions, or calculate the matching height. If the desired shape is different, crop first. The resize guide includes an example.
How do I make the background transparent?
Transparency is preserved when the edited image has a transparent background and you export it as PNG, or as WebP where supported. JPG does not preserve transparency. Choosing PNG does not automatically remove a background.
Why does color splash affect more than one object?
The selection uses color ranges across the image rather than an object outline. Similar colors can remain visible in different areas. Read the selective color guide for examples and limits.
Which format should I save?
JPG is suitable for ordinary photos. PNG is useful for transparency and graphics. WebP may be useful for website images when your browser supports export. Check the saved file's size; the editor does not promise an exact KB target.
Can I work offline?
Previously cached parts of the app can work offline after a first visit. A resource that has not been cached still needs a connection. Remote images and the contact form require internet access. See the installation and offline guide.
Can I recover an earlier version?
Keep your original file and save edited results under new names. Do not rely on the editor as permanent storage for your photos. Browser site data can be cleared, and closing or reloading a session can interrupt your work.
